After taking care of the evil Jaffar, who once tried to enslave the Persian Empire, and rescuing the lovely
Princess from Jaffar's evil hands, you took a well deserved break. The Princess and you have lived
peacefully and happily for a certain period of time...until...the evil Jaffar returned with yet another
twisted and evil plot to rule the kingdom, marry the beautiful Princess and get rid of you! Well, that's
what you get for not making sure that he was dead in Prince of Persia 1. :) Hehehe. How did he do it, you ask?
Well, since Jaffar is a sorcerer, he used a powerful spell to make the Princess and her father, the Sultan, think
that you're not the Prince anymore, but nothing but a simple beggar, who commited a treason against their Empire, so they chased you away!
Your new adventure starts here...
Graphics [8/10]:
Unlike the first part, Prince of Persia 2 features lots of different settings in it. From the palace walls,
to boat rides, misterious caves, etc., there's a lot more different environments that help this game not to
become boring. There's even a short intro in the beginning that was exceptionally well made. I really liked
the variety of enemies in this game. Not only that you have to deal with soldiers, but you have to even kill
what's already dead! Skeletons with swords and similar creatures! Lots of sprites at the same time, virtually no
slowdown, excellent job!
Music and Sound [7/10]:
Music and sounds in this game are acceptable. The most important thing is that there's lots of different tunes playing
in different levels which doesn't make the mood boring, exactly what I like! :) The technical side of music is not the brightest part of this game
but it's satisfying. That goes the same for the sounds. There is quite a few sounds in this game but the quality is nothing special.
Every environment produces different sounds, it's not repetative like in most games. Enemies come with totally different sounds, even
when you kill them they don't all make the same dieing sound. If the technical side was a bit better I'd have given it a straight 10.
Game Play [9/10]:
There's nothing changed in gameplay compared to part 1. As in Prince of Persia 1, you can walk, run, make a step forward, climb, and lower down.
The same recepie for the gameplay as in part 1 but twice as tricky and difficult this time. It is extremely fun to play this game.
Trial and error will definitelly occur in every step you make. You carefully have to examine every room you walk in before you make a move
because there's hidden traps everywhere! Don't worry, you do have unlimited lives, but only an hour, and
when that hour passes that is it, the Prince is history, Jaffar wins. If you liked the gameplay in Out of This World and Flashback you will
definitely fall in love with Prince of Persia 2, because it's very similar to those games.
Challenge and Replay [6/10]:
As with almost all games of this type, once you finally do manage to finish this game you'll probably thank the heavens for doing so
because it's extremely long and frustrating. It is quite challenging, but once you beat a level you get codes so when you finish this game and in like 2-3 months
wish to see the ending again you'll probably just type in the code for the last level and presto. No need to play all the levels again. Not very good for replay value. ;)
Conclusion/Overall [7.5/10]:
This is a solid game that is definitelly worth a purchase. Looking for a game to play for quite a while?
Prince of Persia 2 would be a great choice. Lots of levels, challenge, enemies.....fun, fun, fun!
